Patients with acute myeloid leukemia have several blood problems, and that includes impaired coagulation. They may report bleeding gums or hemorrhagic manifestations in the skin, such as red dots called petechiae, and larger areas of skin hemorrhage, called ecchymoses. Some of them may start bleeding in the gastrointestinal tract, and undergo life-threatening situations when bleeding occurs in the central nervous system or the lungs.
