Chronic myeloid leukemia

It is often detected accidentally when doctors order a complete blood test to detect other ailments. However, lymphocytosis in the complete blood counts must persist for at least 3 months to make the diagnosis of chronic myeloid leukemia. Other tests should be performed as well, including a peripheral blood smear and flow cytometry. In some cases, the differential diagnosis with small lymphocytic lymphoma should me bade. In these cases, it will be necessary to perform a biopsy of the lymph nodes. In patients with repeated infections, it will be useful to get their quantitative levels of immunoglobulin to plan ahead for the treatment.
